Acne can seem like an impossible challenge to manage. Whether or not you’re a teenager or adult, there are proven ways that you can treat this common skin problem called acne.

Quiz Tip #1 – How Often to Wash Your Face

The answer to this question is twice per day, do not over-wash. To wash your face, use warm water and a little mild soap. Massage your face gently using circular motions. Make sure that you do not scrub your face as this can irritate the skin.

After thoroughly washing your face, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends that you apply lotion containing benzoyl peroxide, which can be purchased over-the-counter at your local pharmacy.

Remember, if you’re concerned about your acne, talk to a dermatologist.

Acne myths have been around forever. Some acne myths live on as old wives tales and continue to persist, in spite of scientific evidence to the contrary. This article aims to address some of those acne myths and attempt to separate the fact from the fiction.

Myth #1: People who have acne are unclean and maintain poor hygiene.

This acne myth has no truth to it. Acne is caused by a hormonal imbalance in the body. Acne occurs when the oil glands responsible for keeping your skin waterproof and moist, over react to produce excessive quantities of sebum. The excessive sebum blocks the associated hair follicle, causing clogged pores, which in turn, develops into acne.

So hygiene has absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact unnecessary scrubbing of the skin can exacerbate the problem. Proper skin care is very important – wash your face gently and pat dry.

Myth #2: Eating the wrong foods will lead to acne.

This acne myth is often used. However, there is no direct evidence between what you eat and acne. The chocolates, the French fries, the cheese pizza, and all those other fatty foods that have been lambasted over the years because of their unhealthy consequences, have no affect whatsoever on your skin. Eating a well balanced diet makes sense. So while you do not have to be concerned as to whether or not your favorite treat affects your skin (at least directly), do remember that it does affect your overall health.

Myth #3: Acne is caused by stress.

Most of the stress that affect us as part of our day-to-day lives does not lead to acne. Sometimes, acne can arise as the side-effect of drugs taken to treat severe stress. Talk to your doctor to find out if your stress medication is responsible for your acne. Stress can however make an already existing acne condition worse.

Myth #4: Acne is a merely a cosmetic disease.

While acne does affect the way you look, if left untreated, it can lead to permanent scarring. This acne scarring is much more than cosmetic and can cause much more severe problems if left untreated. Acne also affects people psychologically. It is known to affect their perception of themselves, their self-esteem and confidence and their interaction with others. It can cause feelings of frustration, depression and social embarrassment.

Myth #5: Acne can not be cured.

With the multitude of acne products on the market today, there is no reason why anyone should have to suffer the agony caused by acne. The fact is, acne can be cleared up with the right medication and a regime specific to your needs. Consult your dermatologist if you have acne.

Acne No More is the #1 best selling acne ebook in the history of the Internet for a reason…

Thousands of women and men of every age have completely cured their acne condition and achieved lasting clear skin naturally, without drugs, over the counters, creams or “magic potions,” simply by using the clinically proven, scientifically-accurate step by step method found inside this amazing acne freedom guidebook.

Mike Walden, a certified nutritionist, health consultant and author has not just pumped out yet another “acne cure program” into an already over-saturated market. Mike’s Acne No More can be more accurately described as an “Acne Bible.” It is quite simply one of the most comprehensive, complete, and precise guides to acne freedom you will ever read. What makes it so much different than other clear skin publications on the market?

Well first of all, it’s not just a “acne relief” or “skin care” program, it’s a holistic acne cure program. This may seem like semantics or wordplay at first, but once you’ve read just the first chapters, there will be no doubt in your mind that pursuing “acne relief” is not only the wrong goal, it may be the reason that you’ve failed to stop and maintain your ‘acne free internal environment’. Acne No More shows you exactly why you should fix the internal problem that’s causing your acne, not just masking the symptoms or getting relief and then goes on to show you exactly how to do it.

Secondly, what makes Acne No More different is the amount of attention that is paid to each and every element required to achieve permanent freedom from acne symptoms and from hormonal and toxic overload disorders. Acne No More not only thoroughly discusses the lies, myths and fallacies surrounding a very confusing subject, it is simply the most detailed book about acne, blackheads, and hormonal health and inner balance ever written.

The Acne No More book is quite extensive (223 pages of rock solid content) which focuses on 100% natural acne treatment. That means there aren’t recommendations for harsh prescription drugs with nasty side effects. In Acne No More core formula section (The 5 pillars) – Nothing is held back. In this section, Mike gives a detailed overview of each step, and then dives into the specifics in a perfect chronological order. There are also outstanding charts and checklists which make it very easy to know where you are at in the program and follow it.

Because the Acne No More program is not a quick fix ‘fairy tale’ cure but a complete holistic solution aimed at eliminating the root cause of acne and digestive disorders (regardless of their severity) and ensure your will permanently be acne-free, it does take work and persistence to complete. “The dictionary is the only place success comes before work” says Mike, as he emphasizes the “no quick fix” philosophy behind the entire book.

If there is any drawback to the Acne No More ebook, it’s that it contains so much information, that some readers may find it a bit overwhelming. Those who are looking for a quick start type of acne program, might be a bit intimated at first. The good part however, is that even these types of readers can feel confident and assured that it will be worth the effort because this will literally be the last book they ever have to buy on the subject.

Who will benefit most from Acne No More?

In the broadest sense, anyone and everyone who needs to cure their acne and regain their natural inner balance will benefit from Acne No More. This ebook is honestly for everyone. Even people without acne. This is a total health rejuvenation program better than 98% of the nutrition and alternative health books on the market.

In terms of graphic design, Acne No More is a clean and professionally formatted PDF e-book. It is well organized and ideal for printing and reading in the comfort of your own home.

This impressive and unique publication has changed many lives and the hundreds of inspiring testimonials and success stories are found on the Acne No More website archives as proof.

The Bottom line?

Anyone looking for a quick fix solution to acne, anyone looking to be told fairy-tales, and anyone looking for a “magic bullet”, acne pills, over the counters, ‘acne freedom in 3 days’ hyped up programs should not waste his or her time with Acne No More.

On the other hand, anyone searching for the truth about acne and his natural inner balance and who is ready and willing to put in some work and make the lifestyle changes necessary to achieve acne freedom, will find Acne No More to be one of the best investments they ever made in their lives. Click here to learn more about Mike Walden’s Acne No More.

Acne conglobata: A very severe type of acne in which nodules are connected beneath the skin surface to other nodules or acne lesions.

Acne mechanica: Form of acne that develops in response to heat, covered skin, constant pressure, and/or repetitive friction against the skin.

Acne vulgaris: The medical term for common acne, which is characterized by the presence of one or more of the following: blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules.

Androgenic: Referring to the hormones that stimulate the sebaceous glands to create sebum.

Androgens: Hormones that stimulate sebaceous glands in addition to other effects on the body. Present in both males and females, androgens are responsible for physical maturation in males and therefore occur in much higher levels in males. Males tend to have more severe acne than females.

Antimicrobial: Agent, such as a medication, that kills or eliminates microorganisms.

Blackhead: A non-inflammatory acne lesion that is filled with excess oil and dead skin cells. Blackheads are also called “open comedomes” because the surface of the skin remains open.

Chloracne: Rash characterized by many comedones that develops from exposure to chlorinated chemicals or herbicides.

Closed comedo: A whitehead; a non-inflammatory comedo with white center.

Comedo (plural: comedones): A comedo is a sebaceous follicle plugged with sebum, dead cells from inside the sebaceous follicle, tiny hairs, and sometimes bacteria. When a comedo is open, it is commonly called a blackhead because the surface of the plug in the follicle has a blackish appearance. A closed comedo is commonly called a whitehead; its appearance is that of a skin-colored or slightly inflamed “bump” in the skin.

Comedogenic: Likely to cause comedones.

Dermatologic surgery: Deals with the diagnosis and treatment of medically necessary and cosmetic conditions of the skin, hair, nails, veins, mucous membranes and adjacent tissues by various surgical, reconstructive, cosmetic and non-surgical methods. This includes laser surgery, cryosurgery, chemical surgery, aspirational surgery and excisional surgery. The purpose of dermatologic surgery is to repair and/or improve the function and cosmetic appearance of skin tissue

Follicle: The tiny shaft in the skin through which a hair grows, and sebum is excreted from sebaceous glands to the surface of the skin.

Hormones: Chemical substances produced by the body that, depending on the hormone, govern many body processes. Certain hormones cause physical maturation during puberty. These are the ones implicated in acne.

Inflammatory: A word that means “causing inflammation.” In acne, “inflammatory” is usually used to describe lesions that are inflamed by chemical reactions or bacteria in clogged follicles.

Isotretinoin: Potent systemic medication used to treat severe forms of acne. Due to potential birth defects, a woman must not take this medication while pregnant or breast feeding and must not become pregnant while taking isotretinoin.

Keloid: Large raised scar that spreads beyond the size of the original wound.

Lipids: Oily substances that include things like fats, oils and waxes. Sebum is made up of lipids. A particular kind of lipid, free fatty acids, are irritating to the skin.

Macule: A flat spot or patch of skin that is not the same color as the surrounding skin.

Melanin: Substance that gives hair and skin its color.

Microcomedo: The first stage of comedo formation; a comedo so small that it can be seen only with a microscope.

Nodulocystic acne: A severe form of acne that is characterized by numerous deep, inflamed bumps (nodules) and large, pus-filled lesions that resemble boils (cysts). The nodules tend to be tender when touched and feel firm. The severe inflammation can cause the acne to become very red or even purple. Scarring often results when the acne heals.

Noncomedogenic: Not likely to cause comedones.

Noninflammatory: In acne, comedones that are not associated with redness in the skin.

Open comedo: (A blackhead) a noninflammatory comedo with a dark top and firmly packed contents.

Papule: An inflammatory comedo that resembles a small, red bump on the skin.

Papulopustular: A type of acne characterized by the presence of papules and pustules.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: Excessive skin darkening at places where the skin was inflamed.

Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes): A normal resident on the skin,
P. acnes will multiply rapidly in clogged hair follicles where sebum is trapped.

Puberty: The time of life when a child begins the physical maturation process toward adulthood. Onset is usually in the early teens and is accompanied by a large increase in hormone production.

Pustule: An inflammatory comedo that resembles a whitehead with a ring of redness around it.

Retinoid: A natural or synthetic substance derived from vitamin A.

Sebaceous glands: Glands in the skin that produce an oily substance called sebum–these glands are the sites of acne lesions. Sebaceous glands are attached to hair follicles and are found mostly on the face, neck, back and chest.

Sebum: The oily substance produced by sebaceous glands.

Steroid acne: Acne that develops from long-term use of corticosteroid medications. Since this condition can develop, corticosteroid medications are prescribed for a limited time.

Systemic therapy: Treatment that consists of taking medication internally, such as in pill form or by injection or infusion.

White blood cells: Components of the blood that help fight off infections.

Whitehead: An acne lesion that forms when oil and skin cells block the opening of a hair follicle. For this reason, whiteheads are called “closed comedomes.”

In the course of reading about acne and other skin diseases, you’ll encounter various medical terms that may be confusing. To help you better understand your acne and how it is categorized, we have compiled a list of common medical terms to assist you during your reading. You can find these terms on our Acne Definitions page.

Non-Inflammatory Acne

Did you know that there are four basic types of non-inflamed acne breakouts? When various debris clogs your pores, a comedo or blemish can form. There is often no redness or swelling with the non-inflamed comedones. However, if invaded by bacteria, it could turn into a pimple.

A microcomedo is the very beginning of an acne lesion and can occur when the sebaceous duct and pore opening becomes blocked by excess sebum and dead skin cells. Every blemish begins as a microcomedo and can possibly turn into another form of acne.

Soft Closed Comedones can develop when cellular debris and sebum (oil) get trapped within the pore opening. The pore is then covered by a layer of more dead skin cells. The lesion remains soft.

A Whitehead occurs when the trapped sebum and bacteria stay below the skin surface. Whiteheads may be so small that they are invisible to the naked eye, or they may show up as little white spots on your skin.

A Blackhead occurs when the pore opens up to the surface. The sebum leaks out and turns a brown or black color because it contains the skin pigment melanin. Blackheads tend to last a long time due to the slow drainage of the sebum to the skin surface.

Blackhead (Open Comedo)

NOTE: Neither blackheads nor whiteheads should be squeezed or picked open, unless extracted by a dermatologist under sterile conditions. Tissue injured by squeezing or picking can become infected by staphylococci, streptococci and other skin bacteria.

Inflamed Acne Blemishes

When bacteria infects a comedone, or if it gets irritated by a person squeezing, inflammation occurs and often causes redness, swelling and pain.

There are four main types of inflamed acne blemishes. These are the more inflamed form of pus -filled or reddish bumps, even boil-like tender swellings.

A Papule is a small, solid lesion that is slightly elevated above the skin surface. It contains no pus or whitehead.

A Pustule is a typical pimple that is a dome-shaped, fragile lesion that contains pus and typically contains a mixture of white blood cells, dead skin and bacteria. They can range in size from small to fairly large. A pustule that forms over a sebaceous follicle usually has a hair in the center. Acne pustules that heal without progressing into a cyst usually leave no scars.

A Nodule, like a papule, is solid, dome-shaped or an irregularly-shaped lesion. They feel like a hard , painful lump under the skin. Unlike the papule, the nodule is characterized by inflammation and can extend into deeper layers of the skin. This can sometimes cause tissue destruction and can result in scarring.

A Cysts is a sac-like lesion that contains liquid or semi-liquid material such as white blood cells, dead cells, and bacteria. Cysts are larger than a pustule and can become severely inflamed. They also extend deeper into the skin, may be painful, and can result in scarring. They are the most severe form of pimple. Cysts and nodules can often occur together and form a severe form of acne called Nodulocystic.
